Originally written as a novella in the late 1980s, The Heroic Legend of Arslan has been adapted to manga and anime numerous times, with the most prominent being the 2013 release of a manga series by famed illustrator, Hiromu Arakawa (the creator of Full metal Alchemist). It tells the story of the young crown prince of Pars, Arslan, as he is forced out of his kingdom when his father, the King, is betrayed and defeated and his domain conquered. Arslan and his few companions must re-assemble an army and fight against overwhelming odds to regain his throne and liberate his kingdom. Through his exploits, he reaches emotional maturity, while the series also tackles underlying issues of slavery, religious fanaticism, betrayal, and humanity.
I have now played through the story once completely on normal and I have to say that I am covetous. If you like anime on Dynasty Warriors or similar games, this is the game for you. What I liked very much was that the story is very strongly based...
on the anime (Arslan Senki). Or put it another way, we play the anime in a light form. Because the video sequences are almost 1 to 1 from the anime. The sequences in the game were saved a little bit, but they also exist in the anime.
To the game itself it is a typical beating game like you know it from Dynasty Warriors. Combi's with light and hard attacks and special moves. Additionally, there are special attacks, the possibility to level weapons to unlock new combos and the possibility to change weapons with special combos. There is also the possibility to scrape troops around at certain times in the game to start an attack with them together.
In the scenarios there are tasks for which you get a rating. There is no time limit which makes the whole thing more relaxed.
There is a free mode whereby you can also play scenarios that are not included in the story, whereby there is even more replay value. Another nice feature is an online mode which allows you to play the story and the free mode together with others. A big advantage because there was no real online mode for such games so far. The game runs very stable on highest graphics and also looks nice like it should be in an anime.
Here was developed a good game and I hope to be able to test the online mode soon. I can recommend this game.
