What if you had it in your power to rid the world of disease, to improve the lives of millions, to ease suffering and cure the sick… and earn a tidy profit? As the head of your own Pharmaceutical Conglomerate you have this power resting in your hands. Will you use it for good? Being totally altruistic may not be the best business plan. The uncomfortable truth (is there an ointment for that?) is that some remedies are more profitable than others and illness is good for business. Welcome to the world of Big Pharma!
Big Pharma is an economic simulation. The core concept of the game is the research, development and sale of medicine. To this end, we are researching (with discoverers) new active substances which, interestingly enough, are not presented using classical...
chemistry but biology, i. e. active substances are sought in animals and plants. As soon as we have the active ingredient, we have to build conveyor lines in buildings to produce medicine (in the form of tablets, ointments, etc. ). Again, we need research, this time for equipment (evaporators, mixers, etc. ). We then buy rooms that look similar to Theme Hospital and lay out the belt streets, that's a bit tricky because of the entry/exit of the conveyor belts to the machines. As soon as the conveyor reaches the outlet slot on a wall, the medication is sold automatically. So, we have nothing to do with transport, advertising, etc. In the end we actually concentrate on the assembly of the various machines in the assembly lines to produce the drugs, which is sometimes very difficult because the game leaves us a bit in the lurch. If the desired drug is to have a certain effect, what do we have to do with the raw material beforehand, i. e. which chain of machines do we need to achieve this goal? The tutorial is long and detailed, but exactly the part remains a little vague. I tried to experiment around to make the medicine I wanted. All in all, a nice game, albeit with a WiSim point of view quite one-sidedly focused on the production, certain aspects could have been incorporated/improved.
