A TILE PLACEMENT GAME OF CREATING LANDSCAPES, CLAIMING AREAS, AND GAINING POINTS Carcassonne is a modern classic tile-placement game based on the award wining game in which the players draw and place a tile with a piece of southern French landscape on it. The tile might feature a city, a road, a cloister, grassland or some combination thereof, and it must be placed adjacent to tiles that have already been played, in such a way that cities are connected to cities, roads to roads, et cetera. The player can then decide to place one of his followers, so called Meeples, on one of the areas on it: on the city as a knight, on the road as a robber, on a cloister as a monk, or on the grass as a farmer. When that area is complete, that meeple scores points for its owner. Each new game is a new experience thanks to the ever-changing landscape.
Carcassonne - Tiles & Tactics has just been released on Steam. I got to know and love this game through the tabletop simulator. This game gave me hope to be better informed about the rules and to use extensions. I personally find the music in the...
menu a bit annoying in the long run. However, control is simple and does not require any real previous knowledge. We are shown the possible places for parts, so that even the youngest can play. A distinction can be made between a local/solo game (against AI) and an online game. For the online mode an account with a third party is necessary - which doesn't bother me personally. The animations can be switched on or off at will. The use of the extension and the validity of the meadows can also be decided individually from round to round. The AI is in my opinion not set too heavy or too simple - in an AI match winning was possible, but you didn't have the feeling that it could happen in your sleep. The last thing I did not do was to provide a tutorial. For beginners, however, it should introduce well into the world of Carcassonne.
All in all a game with a lot of potential and where I would be happy about extensions. Now to an essential sticking point: The description says that two extensions are included: The abbot and the river - unfortunately only the abbot is free. You should be able to buy the river - but by clicking on the buy button you will only be directed to the shop homepage. In the description, however, one has the feeling that these two extensions are included free of charge. This is misleadingly written and, in my opinion, vehemently limits the variety of the game. I hope that this will be fixed or at least that there will be the possibility to buy these and possibly other extensions little by little.
Graphic: 7/10 (including animations)
Music: 3/10 (I muted it after a few minutes - but it is only of limited importance to me)
