I have acquired the game at a sale relatively cheap and I must say after over 60 h play time: The game is the madness! The beginning is really hard, especially for newcomers, because you have to get used to the interface first. But after a few online... guides and some (serious) defeats, you gradually get into it, which increases the game fun many times over. The really interesting thing about HOI4 is the national focus tree. You can follow the historically correct path and when the German Reich invaded Poland in 1939 or you exchange Gdansk for Slovakia and become friends with Poland. Or you can ally yourself with the Soviet Union and so on. This 'what-if-if'-phenomenon probably not only fascinates me. br>

With the DLCu00b4s new focus trees are added and I have to say: These focus trees are really good! The most fun I had as Dominion Canada. I have specialized in destroyers, marines and hunters around the United Kingdom. From the interception of German submarines, the air battle around Great Britain to the self-running D-Day, the game fascinates you. Because you can't have everything at once and because of the resources you have to decide what you are going to war with, the game also has a tactical component. For tactical foxes, the 'Template-Designer' can be used to determine the type of division, as well as its combat width, etc. (I recommend for Marines: pioneers, reconnaissance, logisticians, support artillery and either radio operators or paramedics). Even if the AI acts partly extremely stupid (spamming of allied troops in Greece etc.) and especially the Late game is a little buggy, this does not diminish the game fun. The only point of criticism is the lack of diplomacy. They defeated the German Empire, Italy and Japan in 1944/45 and then have to deal with smaller vassal states from China, which prolongs World War II like chewing gum. Even if a country has lost 90% of its territory, it will never ask for peace diplomatically, but will fight until unconditional surrender. Whoever enjoys history, military, research and tactics is in good hands with HOI4. Once you have internalized the most important game mechanics, the game offers almost endless game fun.
