After 600 hours in RS 2014 here is a short summary. Generally, you can use the game as a beginner to learn bass and guitar. There are video tutorials on techniques and a riff repeater to repeat and slow down heavy song passages. However, as a complete...
beginner I would take 'always' another guitar teacher, because not all techniques are available and even if you seriously want to learn guitar you can't get around a little music theory. The selection of DLCu00b4s in Rocksmith 2014 is massively long, but there is also a quite large community on the net that creates
Technically the Realton cable works well but also has some weaknesses. With bass, the tuner can't really handle the detection. I don't know if it's the active humbuckers from my Ibanez bass, but without an external tuner I can't get it tuned in the program. The tones are not detected by the program long enough (low E side or drop D tuning). In guitar mode the tuner runs without problems (even if it has a deviation of 6-13 cent from the external tuner).
Palmutings are not always registered or normal stop is let through as palmmute.
The program doesn't work with really fast solos or rhythm parts anymore. This means that pauses and also continuous playing in pauses are no longer perceived correctly. But this concerns more the friends of metal, Speedmetal & CO. Normally the detection works well. I can only confirm the problems mentioned here for my instruments. How it works with others would have to be collected separately in a forum.
