After I could finally download the game today at 18:00, it started right after that. At top speed I discovered a completely new and yet partly familiar Green Hill Zone. Shortly thereafter followed the Chemical Plant Zone, which was no less radiant with...
news and had a more horizontal than linear effect. But after a short trip to the soundtrack living Studiopolis Zone followed the Flying Battery Zone, actually one of my favourite zones in Sonic & Knuckles, but in my opinion it seemed set too early. Just by mixing it with Wacky Workbench from Sonic CD and Wing Fortress from Sonic 2, the zone made me wonder what it should be doing here. I personally would have placed it directly in front of the Oil Ocean Zone, then a nice cutscene, which unfortunately are generally a little weak in this Sonic title would have been better possible and the deplacement is gone. Otherwise I liked all the new zones except the Studiopolis Zone, although I would have liked a slightly longer first act for the Mirage Saloon Zone. Like in a Sonic CD 3-act zone, this is actually just a boss fight mixed with some Sky Chase zone and a moving train. A little disappointing, because I really liked the level design in Act 2 and I would have liked to see more of it. But I particularly liked the last two zones. I've always called Metallic Madness my favorite zone from Sonic CD, because she never bore me with her creative elements and challenges and also has a killer track. Rap is divine. The last zone is very creative and my favourite final stage from all Sonic games so far. Especially ACT 2 was a challenge, but I managed the exams right away (I was practiced with time). I couldn't play the Super Sonic final yet, I'll adjust my review if I could. Just the finale, regular boss was too easy for me. But that varies from player to player.
UPDATE: With Knuckles the Mirage Saloon Zone is what I was expecting :D
The game is a 92/100th
