The Last Time combines retro graphics and point-and-click game mechanics with innovative, nonlinear storytelling. You play as Jack Glover, a retired police officer, who has withdrawn from society – until a mysterious phone call starts a series of events which forces him back into the real world. Now, Jack must overcome some new challenges - his physical frailty, his ignorance of modern technology, and his fear of connecting with people - if hes going to finally conquer his demons.
As an indie developer (Dead Age, Grotesque Tactics, Holy Avatar) I like to play other indie games and write many reviews, but my opinion is neutral. br>
The Last Time is a point & click adventure from a single indie developer. He did a really... good job. The story is for the most part cleverly constructed. The graphics are simple, but relatively stylish 'if you like pixels, you can still put yourself in the picture. The sound also contributes to this, gives a neat sound backdrop and successful music. The puzzles are rather simple, the game relies more on the story, which I prefer because I don't want to be delayed too long by constructed puzzles, but they are there. (in contrast to some Tell Tale Adventures ;))
The playing time is not very long with about 3 hours, but price/performance ratio fits of course easily and I personally prefer to play through a small indie title on one day. I didn't regret it at all, I felt well entertained. Some criticism I had, the story is actually quite dark, but every now and then there are weird Monkey Island ideas, which in my opinion takes away some of the tension. but when you think of it as a cartoon game, you can accept that. I also found some jokes quite successful. From there I wish myself some attention for this successful adventure. :)
