Played the CD version at home and countless hours (just in case anyone is wondering about the game hours). After the new Sim City (2013) was totally beaten up, the good old Sim City 4 from 2003 (!) is still the king of urban development simulations....
The regional system with the flanged cities is much better than what they came up with at Sim City (2013). But how's the game today? Of course, the graphics are pretty dusty now, especially compared to Sim City 2013 or even Cities Skylines. However, it does not interrupt the sophisticated simulation. I'd rather not talk about the last Sim City. I think SC4 is still more demanding than cities skylines. At CS, after the first few thousand inhabitants, you have virtually no more money worries. The only demanding aspect here is traffic optimization. The rest is a modest kit for building beautiful cities. The game Cities Skylines is not at all demanding away from traffic. You can follow it in various discussion forums. There is virtually only discussion about traffic management.
SC4 on the other hand is hardcore. Traffic was only part of the claim. Compared to CS, there are not many possibilities to intervene, but the rest of the simulation is well balanced. Claim until the end. You always have to pay attention to money; the citizens are becoming more and more demanding and you have to build services. These cost not only money when buying but not too little maintenance. This is also the case in CS, but there is a complete lack of balance. As a newbie to SC4, you ALWAYS start with a few terrible bankruptcies until you get the hang of it.
Feels fine under Windows 10. Even better than the CD version because it has a copy protection. The available mods also work with the steam version.
The game is too old for widescreen. Unfortunately, only 4:3 resolution. You can change it with start parameters but then it will hack the graphics in the region view.
