Rage is a wonderful shooter of the old school and convinces with well thought out and high staged shootings. This was to be expected, because the developers, id Software, are famous for exactly that. After all, Doom is by them the groundbreaking shooter from 1993, but unfortunately, Rage has weaknesses in other areas, which prevent the game from getting a rating beyond 90. The story, for example, weak and illogical, the half-baked role-playing elements, or the unsatisfying side quests. Rage is not a genre revolution, neither in graphics nor in gameplay. Nevertheless, it turned out to be a great shooter. Especially when it comes to details, you might get surprised by slushy, coarse textures, which stand out between all the graphic splendor like ugly blemishes. Besides, and this weighs even heavier, Rage has serious problems reloading the textures. If you turn around very fast on the spot, you can watch how the game reloads the textures slowly and laboriously. The effect: For seconds, muddy and unsightly surfaces all over the game world. A patch can certainly help here, but since players expect top performance from id Software in this respect, this texture loading time is particularly unpleasant.
