Rage 2 is set 30 years after its predecessor and is again located in the USA, which was completely devastated by a meteorite impact. To escape the threat of destruction, mankind locked previously selected people into arks, kinds of high-tech bunkers in which they would slumber until they were resurrected. When they finally returned to the surface decades later, they found a desolate wasteland where mutants and bandits hunt defenceless settlers. In all this misery, the authorities have declared themselves the new military power. This technically well-equipped troop under the leadership of General Cross suffered a severe defeat in the first rage and was then forced into the underground. Now, 30 years later, General Cross and the authorities have returned and are starting a new attempt to take over the wasteland with the help of high-tech soldiers and mutants.
