What is Space Run about?
Space Run is a real-time spaceship construction strategy game. Space Run takes the well-known Tower Defense-style gameplay and twists it, challenging you to manage and protect a spaceship and its cargo against the hazards of deep space!
Space can be a dangerous place. You're one of the most daring «Space Transporters», people who carry the dangerous task of transporting valuable shipments from one place to another across hazardous space. This supposedly simple task gets tricky once you add dense asteroid fields that regularly cross the space lanes, the armed-to-the-teeth pirate starfighters and spaceships all too willing to shred your ship for your cargo, as well as the other Space Transporters you are competing against!
Space Run is a game that successfully blends the classic tower defense genre with construction strategy and micro management. The player takes on the role of a captain of a space freighter, who has to deliver various cargoes for his customers as a courier. It is important to protect your own spaceship and of course your cargo from the dangers of space. Heavily armed space pirates, asteroid fields and competing space freighters lurk on their way through the depths of space. At the beginning the own space freighter consists of empty fields on which different weapon modules and auxiliary systems can be placed in addition to the cargo and the propulsion. During each mission, space junk is collected, with which the ship can be further expanded during the flight. Destroyed enemies and asteroids also deliver space debris. The faster and more undamaged you complete a mission, the higher your reputation and earned credits that can be invested in new or improved weapon and support systems in the technical field. The player must pay attention to many things during a mission. Does the drive bring enough thrust to reach the target before the delivery deadline has passed? Are you fast enough to reach milestones that promise greater rewards after every mission? Are the weapons, which usually have only a limited range, correctly aligned and is the ship well protected from all sides? Do systems have to be repaired or is it necessary to activate the special function of a module? Since the player is forced to complete all of the captain's tasks in real time, Space Run becomes quite challenging as the game progresses. The bow is still occupied with an asteroid field, while space pirates with large guns are already attacking the stern. You always have to think very carefully about where to build which module. Some systems require e. g. power supply on a neighboring field. No matter how many empty fields you start a mission with, the freighter always seems a bit too small to accommodate enough weapons and support systems. Conclusion: Although the micro-management real-time component demands a lot from the player, Space Run is simply a lot of fun! Nice graphics, good sound! Space Run is highly recommended for players who like the strategy and tower defense genre
