Tales of Zestiria is a typical J-RPG and is primarily aimed at fans of this genre. It captivates with its story, the interesting characters, the wonderful atmosphere and the breeze of humor that completes the game and despite the dark and sad story does not completely drown everything in gloom. The combat system is very dynamic and action-packed, which always makes the fights exciting and keeps the player in line. If you are more into turn-based combat, you might need some time to get used to the slightly hectic encounters. But if you know the Tales of- series or have already played similar games (e. g. Star Ocean) you will get along without problems. Opponents are always visible and can be bypassed if necessary. The soundtrack is also very coherent and always adapts very well to the situations. Motoi Sakuraba and Go Shiina have done a wonderful job here. Especially the pieces of Go Shiina stand out positively and stand out from the brute melancholic pieces of Sakuaba. Both composers complement each other very well and form an excellent unit, which need not hide behind the works of Uematsu. The only drawback of the game is its appearance. The lack of detail and sad look, which is sometimes even negatively noticeable by using bitmaps, will surely be a thorn in the side of many players. Even the Framelock, which only runs the game with 30 frames, doesn't make things any better. However, there is already a mod that makes the game playable with 60 frames. Despite the technical flaws, you should still give the game a chance. The sad and dark story fascinated me within a few minutes and the typical Japanese flair plus the great atmosphere make Tales of Zestiria a more than just average RPG. The Tales of Series has always captivated with interesting characters with comprehensible development, an exciting story with many highlights and twists. Tales of Zestiria is no exception. Even established series like Final Fantasy could learn a bit from this series nowadays
