The Empire of the Machines is threatening the entire universe. The League of Aliens and the U.N.E. (United Nations of Earth) have banded together to defend the galaxy from the invader. Battles are raging everywhere, but it is inside the twisting corridors of the Machines underground production facilities, that the tactical upper hand is taken. And the war is won. Originally designed by Clark Browning, Marco Pecota and Derrick Villeneuve, Legions of Steel is a tactical board game where players fight battles in a dark and dangerous environment. French Developer Studio Nyx have managed to re-create the deep and challenging set of rules, while adding slick 3D models, a clever and accessible UI and a load of new features.
I have already played some turn-based strategy top titles like X-Com od Shadowrun and I must say Legions of Steel is one of the most exciting, tactical and challenging games in this genre and on top of that completely independent and from the tactical...
feeling sometimes something completely new, although extremely hard but fully cool. Nothing like anything, really. You not only have the turn-based elements but also strict guidelines on how many moves you have to finish a scenario. Evenly very mechanically almost mercilessly, if one is not better than the machines one is eliminated very efficiently. Pure strategy must be applied here. The tutorial is very important because Legions of Steel has its own game dynamics and you learn how to survive and eliminate or avoid danger. If you have fought your way through the tutorial you are up to the campaign in which you meet great varied scenarios and above all challenges that pretty much always demand the full commitment. You can also create skirmish matches against machines, but you can also play as an opponent, is also very funny. Multiplayer is also possible, in which of course a fight between machines and soldiers can be fought out but is unfortunately not very popular. I just like the momentum the game gets from the tactical possibilities, hard rules, you have to fight with what you have. A unique turn-based strategy game of the extra class, the price is a little too high I think 10 -15 would have done it, I also bought it at a sale by half and I am afterwards very happy that I have got it, now I would pay the full price I only knew before that I would not like the game sooo well and that is in the genre and especially with small Indie teams the difficult to get attention. I think this game definitely deserves more attention, Legions of Steel is a very important and therefore great enrichment for the turn-based tactics genre. Have fun and maybe see you sometime on the battlefield: D
