Long ago, the dark god Adyr ruled over the demonic Rhogar until the followers of the radiance god Orius rose against him. Unable to kill him, they sealed him away, and one of Orius's finest warriors founded the order of the Hallowed Sentinels to guard five magic beacons in the land of Mournstead and prevent his return. Over the centuries, the once-righteous Sentinels grew corrupt and tyrannical. More than a thousand years later, Adyr's revival looms as the beacons become tainted and the Rhogar begin to overrun the land. The player takes the role of the Lamp Bearer, wielder of the Umbral Lamp, an artifact that can resurrect its user and open the way between the realm of the living and the realm of the dead. Recruited to cleanse the beacons and absorb Adyr's essence, the Bearer sets out across a perilous, decaying world.
