What is Convoy about?
Convoy is a tactical roguelike-like inspired by Mad Max and FTL in which you cross a wasteland in search of parts for your broken ship.
Presented in pixel art and set in a future post-apocalyptic setting, Convoy is a squad based tactical roguelike-like in its core. You travel with your combat vehicles and convoy across a wasteland to find parts needed to repair your broken spaceship. During your journey you will encounter strangers in randomized scenarios by picking up radio signals.
Depending on the choices you make, signals can either lead to tactical combat, text based dialogue or chance based role-play. Whatever choice you make, you need to keep your convoy and its cargo safe from raiders, privateers and other enemies. Keep upgrading your vehicles, as death is permanent in Convoy.
The game is a bit daunting at first and it takes about an hour to warm up with it. After that, however, it offers a lot of long-term fun. You can adjust to four game elements:1 You drive through the landscape with your convoy on an overview map. At the beginning you're still eager to check out the story locations. Later, once you have played through the story a few times, the main focus is on further development of the vehicles and the funny fights, which brings us to point 2 and 3. You expand your convoy by capturing, finding or buying weapons, equipment and vehicles. In addition, the vehicles will be upgraded so that they can drive faster, withstand more and continue shooting. Tactical little skirmishes. You can never get enough of them. At the beginning of the game, when one is still quite weak on the chest, the game is still most challenging. But every new weapon, every new vehicle and every new upgrade can noticeably enhance and strengthen your convoy, so that later on you let go of real fireworks of bullet volleys. The control is very successful. If you prefer it quiet, you can pause the real-time fights at any time. 4th text adventure. In the game there is always something to read and to make decisions. Personally, I enjoy it a lot, but not everyone could like this game element, especially since the game language is English. What else is there? There are two resources, fuel and scrap(?). A run takes about 2 to 3 hours, then you have usually defeated the end boss (which appears as soon as you have found all the parts). With a little routine, the game is very easy. If you find certain secrets or unlock certain successes, new vehicles are unlocked, which you can choose at the beginning of the game. The sound is ok, the graphics, as you can see, minimalistic, but still atmospheric.
