What is Rebel Galaxy about?

Rebel Galaxy is a swashbuckling space adventure, with action-packed combat, exploration, discovery, trade, and “negotiation” with the outlandish denizens at the edge of the known universe.
As the commander of an immensely powerful star destroyer, you'll battle pirates, explore anomalies, befriend aliens, scavenge battle wreckage, mine asteroids, and discover artifacts. Choose your path as a roguish do-gooder, crafty space-trader or power-hungry privateer – or maybe a little of each! Buy larger and more powerful craft with your hard-earned credits, and outfit them with a variety of wicked weapons and defenses. Set in a galaxy of fantastic sights, and secrets to be found, Rebel Galaxy is above all a space epic of adventure, exploration, and combat.
The edge of the universe is a pretty dangerous place, so watch your back.

Rebel Galaxy was inspired by old classics like Elite and Freelancer. The battles are like at the time of sailing ships and cannons, with broadsides in a plain. Still, it's fun. In addition, the ships have independent towers and secondary weapon systems. In the beautiful graphics, small enemies also fly a little above and below the battle plane to make a 3D impression. There are space stations of several factions with which you can trade, get missions, buy better equipment and larger ships. The game saves automatically in the space stations, manual saving is not possible. Weapons, shields and equipment fit all ships and you get back the full purchase price at the time of sale. With the good music it becomes clear that the developers are fans of Firefly. difficulty / opponentThere is no directly adjustable difficulty level. In the role models (as in most RPGs) you improve your fighting strength with your earnings, and then proudly return to the places where you had only escaped before. Here the enemy groups automatically become stronger when you improve your ship and especially when you buy bigger ships. Unfortunately, this adjustment function is sometimes bad and is not explained or even mentioned to the player in the game. When I changed from Icarus to Tennhausen the enemy groups and their perceived firepower increased dramatically, although my effective firepower improved by at most 20% at that moment. After reading about matching my opponent in the forum, I switched back to Icarus and the world was fine again. The customization function overestimates the size of the ship and the number of broadside seats. The defensive abilities are underestimated. Larger ships have more weapon positions, but are usually slower and more motionless, yet they only have the same shields and deflectors as the small ships at their disposal. FazitThe game is fun and brings back memories of the old classics, even if the fights are not really 3D.
