Gameplay & Contents of the beta

When it comes to the game, Overkill's The Walking Dead is a four-player cooperative multiplayer action game inspired by Robert Kirkman's original graphic novels, in which players must unite on a variety of missions and raids to find survivors, secure supplies, and stay alive. Players use stealth tactics to dodge enemies, or simply dismember them with brute force and firepower. Each of the four playable characters has its own special abilities, talent trees, team features, play styles, and background stories.

In the beta, the first two levels of the game will be presented, which can be played together with two camp defence missions. Further locations will follow in the course of the test phase before the game is launched. The servers for the closed beta will go online at several intervals during the month. A complete schedule with the dates for the closed beta can be found on the official website.

Overkill's The Walking Dead was originally planned to release by 2016. However, the game will be released on November 8, 2018, for the PC and February 8, 2019, for PS4 and Xbox One.

Overkill's The Walking Dead: Game Trailer

At the end of 2017, Overkill returned to the game with a new trailer. The trailer not only showed fresh zombie impressions but also introduced one of the four playable characters. He bears the name Aidan, was once an architect, and has been slaughtering himself through the ranks of the undead with a nail-set baseball bat since the outbreak of the zombie apocalypse.

The sequences shown were taken in Washington, revealing the first location of the game. In the context of a live stream, The Walking Dead inventor Robert Kirkman also talked about that he was initially very sceptical about a The Walking Dead style shooter since there are already countless good games in this area. That's why it's especially important for him to go new ways with Overkill's The Walking Dead and deliver a game that trumps other titles of the genre. Gameplay wise, The Walking Dead reminds us of Payday. Four characters either go into battle together using the offensive force of arms or on quiet soles, having special abilities as well as skill trees.
