The next iteration in the Ghost Recon Franchise will be Ghost Recon: Breakpoint. The game will build on Ghost Recon: Wildlands, but there will be a lot of upgrades and differences. This time, Ghost Recon will be set in the fictional open-world archipelago of Aurora, moving away from Bolivia where the previous title played out. The Island is lush and beautiful with varying environments and biomes like active volcanoes, snow-tipped mountains, deserts, fjords, forests, etc. Each environment affects your movements, how well you can camouflage yourself and other things.
Players find themselves stranded on Aurora with limited supplies and they have to do their best to survive in their war against the well-equipped Wolves. The Wolves have taken over Aurora and harnessed the drone production technology of Skell Technology, a US military contractor based on the island. The Wolves were former members of the Ghosts who went rogue. They are led by Cole D. Walker who is played by actor Jon Bernthal. Cole D. Walker was previously introduced in the Operation Oracle DLC for Ghost Recon: Wildlands.
Ghost Recon: Breakpoint retains the third-person perspective of the previous games, with Sync Shot also being retained from Wildlands. Players will need to service their weapons to keep them working fine, and they will also need to watch the hydration, hunger level and fatigue of their in-game characters. Resources can be scavenged to craft rations, bandages and other items. There is a regenerative health system but serious injuries will require more time to heal, and you’ll need to set up a bivouac shelter to heal yourself. Furthermore, the vehicular controls are improved in Breakpoint, and you have more vehicular options.
Bivouac shelters are also useful for customizing your character and choosing character classes. You can trade items with other players here, or rest and pass your time, so you can play missions at night or during the day depending on your preference. The character classes will determine your play style - either go in full gun-blazing or with a more tactical stealth approach. Moreover, you can now cut through fences, hide corpses of players you’ve killed and also carry injured teammates to safe points for healing.
Ghost Recon: Breakpoint will require a constant internet connection to play the game, unlike the previous titles. The single-player story mode will feature dialogues that determine the kind of intelligence you gain. There won’t be AI squadmates in this game unlike Wildlands, but you can play the coop mode with three other players. There will also be a multiplayer mode, raids, and other modes. Your loadouts, upgrades and other character progression remains the same regardless of the game mode.
On October 4, 2019, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint will be released on Xbox, PS4 and PC. On PC, the game will be exclusive to the Epic Games Store as Ubisoft has no plans to release it on Steam. Ubisoft plans to release some DLC's for Ghost Recon: Breakpoint after the launch of the game.
