If you are a fan of the John Wick movie franchise, then we've got some good news for you. Lionsgate in collaboration with developer Bithell and publisher Good Shepherd Entertainment has announced John Wick Hex. The game will be a turn-based, action-strategy game based on the movie series. The announcement trailer revealed the cel-shaded graphics of the upcoming game, with the gameplay emulating the gun action of the movies.
What is John Wick Hex about?
Players will control John Wick and guide him through different levels designed like puzzles. You'll need to take down enemies as efficiently and as fast as possible with minimal ammunition. You might also need to follow specific sequences. The developers likened the game to a game of chess where you need to choose your actions and attacks carefully while thinking ahead of your opponents. Every move in the game will feel like a scene from the movies, and you must be precise with each move and strike - Reloading your gun at the wrong time will prove fatal.
As you progress through the game, you'll unlock new weapons, suits and locations. You'll also need to scavenge for new guns to survive. The game will have its own original story instead of being a rehash of the franchise plot, with popular actors like Lance Reddick and Ian McShane who starred in the movies featuring as voice actors in the game. Both of them will reprise their roles as concierge Charon and Winston respectively. It hasn't been revealed if Keanu Reeves, the star of the movies will feature in the game, though the developers said that more cast members will be revealed later on.
Headed by Mike Bithell, Bithell Games are known for their award-winning indie games like Volume and Thomas Was Alone, so we can be sure that John Wick Hex is in safe hands. The stunt team and creative experts that worked on the movies are also working with the development team to ensure that John Wick Hex will be a game all John Wick fans will love.
This isn't the first time that John Wick will be featured in a video game. In 2017, a first-person VR shooter titled John Wick Chronicles was released by Starbreeze Studios. The developers also made John Wick a playable character in the heist game, Payday 2 through a DLC released in 2015. John Wick is also available as a skin mod in Fortnite.
The game will be released on Console, Mac and PC, being a timed exclusive for the Epic Games Store for the latter. It will likely be released on Steam after the expiration of the Epic Games Store timed exclusivity. There is no release date for the game yet, but it will probably be some time after the theatrical release of John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum on May 17.
